Based on Long Island, NY, we conducts research to assess the global competitiveness and international engagement of Long Island and to determine the region’s international engagement readiness, capability, and commitment.
We develop the dashboard globalli.org to provide insights of international business activities on Long Island and identify areas for improvements.
We periodically produce a Long Island Business Development Report. The most recent report, published in 2020, provides an in-depth analysis of international business activities in the New York metropolitan area and Long Island. The report provides an overview of export performance, foreign direct investment, and business patterns in the region. It helps regional and local businesses and government agencies to better understand their local economy and international engagement.
The 2020 Long Island, NY, Business Development Report includes analysis based on available export and economic data from 2016 to 2018 or 2019. In this report, Nassau and Suffolk counties in Long Island showed robust exports and economic growth in 2017 and 2018. However, exports out of New York declined in 2019 due to various international trade issues.
Looking forward, 2020 has been and will be an even more challenging year for the region due to the pandemic crisis, tension with China, and political uncertainty in Hong Kong (one of New York’s major export destinations). The region will focus on economic recovery while exploring new foreign markets to maintain export growth.
